  11.           Thank you  for considering  File/Archive. We  hope  you  find  it
  12.           useful.   As you  will see  in the license, you are acquiring the
  13.           right to use this product; you do not own it.  Since this program
  14.           is offered  as a  shareware program,  you need  to  register your
  15.           copy of  the  system  in  order  to  become  a  fully  supported,
  16.           registered user.   When you register your copy of File/Archive by
  17.           remitting the  registration fee  of  $50,  we  will  send  you  a
  18.           registered copy  of the programs containing the latest updates, a
  19.           printed copy  of the  complete documentation,  and add you to our
  20.           list of  registered users.   Please  add $4.00  for shipping  and
  21.           handling ($6.00  outside the  continental United  States; Indiana
  22.           residents add 5% sales tax - $2.50.  You will then be entitled to
  23.           telephone support  for any  problems or questions that may arise.

  35.           After you  have installed  File/Archive, there  will  be  a  file
  36.           called LICENSE.DOC  which contains  the license  agreement and  a
  37.           file called  FORM.DOC containing  a form  which may  be  used  to
  38.           register your  copy of  File/Archive.   Just print the file, fill
  39.           out the registration form, and send it in with your fee.

  95.           GETTING STARTED
  96.  
  97.           File/Archive may  be  installed  on  your  hard  disk  using  the
  98.           automatic installation  procedure provided.  It assumes that your
  99.           hard disk  is drive C: and will install the system in a directory
  100.           called FILARC.   IT  GIVES YOU  THE OPPORTUNITY TO OVERRIDE THESE
  101.           PARAMETERS IF  YOU WISH.   It will also create two batch files in
  102.           the root  directory of  drive C:,  but again,  will give  you the
  103.           opportunity to  override this.   IT WILL NOT INSTALL ANY OF THESE
  104.           FILES IF ANY ONE OF THEM ALREADY EXISTS.

  106.           If you  don't want  to use  the installation  procedure provided,
  107.           establish a  directory where  you want the system installed; make
  108.           that directory  current; type  A:FILARC20 and  press enter;  type
  109.           A:USER and press enter; run program FACS.  If you want the system
  110.           to  create   the  batch  files,  run  INSTBAT  according  to  the
  111.           instructions in that file.

  124.           This system  automatically determines when backups should be made
  125.           and reminds  you whenever  you turn on your computer or ask it to
  126.           check the  status of  backups.   You  can  set  different  backup
  127.           criteria for  any combination  of directories  or files and File-
  128.           Safe only  tells you about those files/directories that currently
  129.           should be  backed up.  If nothing needs backing up when File-Safe
  130.           checks it,  it automatically  returns you to DOS.  You never have
  131.           to worry  about the  hassle of  remembering to do backups because
  132.           File-Safe automatically  tells you.    It  maintains  a  complete
  133.           history of  backup activity,  which disks contain which backed up
  134.           files, and  allows you  to review  this information  on screen or
  135.           produce a printed report.  The system supports color and lets you
  136.           choose any combination of colors or black & white.

  141.           THE GUARDIAN:
  142.  
  143.           The Guardian  is a  security system designed to protect an entire
  144.           disk (either a hard disk or a diskette) against unauthorized use.
  145.           Individual files  on a  disk may  or may  not be  protected by  a
  146.           password mechanism  or an  encryption routine.  The Guardian uses
  147.           an algorithm  that logically  "locks" a  disk so  that NO  files,
  148.           programs or directories on the disk may be accessed regardless of
  149.           whether they  are otherwise secured.  Although designed primarily
  150.           to protect  a hard  disk, it can just as easily be used to lock a
  151.           diskette -  a very useful feature for a disk that isn't locked up
  152.           in a safe every day.

  154.           The Guardian presents a sign-on  menu every time you turn on your
  155.           computer and, if you don't properly identify yourself, it "locks"
  156.           the disk,  making all  files untouchable.  Only you have the tool
  157.           to unlock  it.   In case  someone knows  that you have a security
  158.           system, you  might fear  that they will boot your computer from a
  159.           diskette and  then go roaming through your hard disk.  To prevent
  160.           this, just  call up  The Guardian  and tell  it to lock your disk
  161.           before you leave - you're immediately  protected.  When your disk
  162.           is locked,  no one  can access  your files or even see what files
  163.           are there.   It takes less than a second to lock or unlock a hard
  164.           disk and just a little bit longer for diskettes.

  166.           In addition  to the  sign-on program,  the system  comes  with  a
  167.           program for  setting colors,  setting or  changing up  to six (6)
  168.           passwords, and  selectively locking  or unlocking  any disk.   To

  176.           effect when the disk was originally locked.
